South Africa batter Heinrich Klaasen has created a record batting at No. 5 position. He smashed a record-breaking 174 off just 83 deliveries against Australia in the fourth ODI. With the courtesy of his century, South Africa scored 416 runs for 5 in the fourth ODI in Centurion.

After being demolished in the T20I series against Australia. The Proteas did not get the start in the ODI series as they lost the first two matches. In the third ODI, they made a huge total and won the match by 111 runs. Now, they have posted a mammoth total.

Henrich Klassen and David Miller create carnage against Australia

Klassen came in to bat when the hosts were at 120/3. He stitched a partnership with Rassie van der Dussen (62), and together, they rapidly added 74 runs for the fourth wicket. Klaasen then recorded a fiery double-century stand with David Miller, who was unbeaten at 82 runs as the former toyed with the Aussie bowlers after crossing the 50-run mark.

This was his second-fastest ODI ton. It is the fourth-fastest ODI ton by a SA batter. He has raced to 1,317 runs in ODIs at an impressive average of 42.48. His strike rate in the format reads 11.2.37. Besides three tons, he also has five fifties. In 2023, he completed 513 ODI runs at an average strike rate of 73.28 and 154.51, respectively.

He became only the second SA batter after De Villiers to score 150 or more in an ODI innings while batting at number five or lower. Itย was his second ODI ton against the Aussies. He has raced to 496 runs in 10 ODIs against Australia at 70.85 with his strike rate being 126.20. His inning comprised 13 sixes and 13 fours.ย  The 32-year-old batter now owns the third-highest ODI score by a SA batter against the Aussies.

The duo were particularly aggressive on leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who ended up with figures of none for 113 in 10 overs. They scored 157/3 in the 32 overs. But in the last 18 overs, the duo went to absolute carnage. They scored 259 runs.

Australia is now 35/2 and they need someone like Klassen to chase down this target.
