Shardul Thakur impressed with the bat with his fiery knock in the ongoing IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. KKR were struggling after losing 5 wickets under 100 runs but Shardul then took the charge and went on to smash a half-century in just 20 balls as KKR posted a total of 204 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

RCB skipper, Faf du Plessis won the toss and asked the home team to bat first. Batting first, KKR first lost Venkatesh Iyer for 3 runs at the score of 26 runs in the fourth over as David Willey cleared his stumps. On the very next ball, Willey struck again and bowled Mandeep Singh to get his second consecutive wicket.

Skipper Nitish Rana also couldn’t contribute much as he was caught by Dinesh Karthik behind the stumps on the delivery of Michael Bracewell.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz took the innings further with his half-century

However, opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz took the innings further from one end and went on to score a half-century. The 21-year-old batter from Afghanistan got out after scoring 57 off 44, hitting six fours and three sixes. He was caught by Akash Deep in the 12th over on the delivery of Karn Sharma. On the very next ball, Andre Russell got out while trying to take on Sharma but ended up giving a catch to Virat Kohli at long-on.

KKR were reduced to 89 for 5 in 11.3 overs before Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh took charge. Thakur and Rinku put up a partnership of 103 runs. Rinku got out after scoring 46 runs off 33 balls hitting two fours and three sixes in the 19th over but had done his job. Thakur, on the other hand, smashed 68 runs off just 29 balls before getting out in the 20th over. The 31-year-old smashed nine fours and three sixes during his innings.

For RCB, David Willey and Karn Sharma took 2 wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj, Michael Bracewell and Harshal Patel shared a wicket each.
