Virat Kohli scored a magnificent century against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday to take Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) closer to the Indian Premier (IPL) 2023 playoffs. Chasing a target of 187 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Kohli and RCB skipper Faf du Plessis formed a record partnership, propelling the team to an eight-wicket victory and a fourth-place position in the IPL points standings.
It was a must-win game for RCB to stay alive in the tournament and a loss would have seen Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) enter the knockout stage. In fact, it was an indirect punch from Kohli to the third-placed LSG, and fans did not forget to have a war of words recalling the episode that shook the cricket fraternity earlier in the season when the former RCB captain and Gautam Gambhir had a verbal spat.
Meanwhile, following Kohli's match-winning hundred, former Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) president and current TV news presenter Rajat Sharma poured fuel to the Kohli-Gambhir feud. Rajat congratulated Kohli for his sixth IPL ton, which helped RCB cross the target with 8 balls to spare, but he also took an indirect dig at the LSG mentor Gambhir.
"Magnificent 100 by Virat. It was a delight to watch. Of course, somebody somewhere may not be happy," Rajat tweeted.

How did the Rajat-Gambhir feud start?
Rajat didn't mention any names, but it was clear that the 'someone' he mentioned was Gambhir as the rivalry between the two was well-known. The rivalry between them became popular after Kohli got into a verbal-spat with Gambhir and LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq after their teams' clash on May 1.
Following the incident, Rajat, in a programme on India TV, angered the former Indian cricketer by claiming that his ego grew after becoming a Member of Parliament and that Kohli’s popularity worries him.
“Gambhir has been provoked. After fighting the elections and becoming a Member of the Parliament, Gambhir’s ego has increased even more. How Virat Kohli’s popularity worries Gambhir was witnessed yet again, clearly on the ground. Kohli is a player who is always aggressive, doesn’t tolerate any nonsense and so he gave Gambhir an apt reply,” the 66-year-old said.
Gambhir hit back at Rajat with an angry tweet in which he called Rajat’s remarks as ‘paid PR’.
“Man who ran away from Delhi Cricket citing “pressure” seems over eager to sell paid PR as concern for cricket! Yahi kalyug hai jahan ‘bhagode’ apni adalat chalate hain (This is the modern era, those who run away are the ones running their own courts of law)”, the left-handed batter tweeted without naming Rajat directly.
Here's how fans reacted to Rajat Sharma's tweet:
Ofcourse we know who that is 😃 Rest assured that “someone” is going to see more such disappointments going forwards LOL!
