Kuldeep Yadav, the young Indian spinner, has etched his name in the annals of cricket history as he broke Anil Kumble's record by reaching the 150 wickets mark in One Day Internationals (ODIs). This remarkable achievement showcases Yadav's immense talent and potential, solidifying his position as one of India's finest spinners.
Yadav's journey to this milestone has been nothing short of extraordinary. From making his international debut in 2017 to becoming an integral part of the Indian team, he has consistently displayed exceptional skills and determination. His ability to deceive batters with his variations and flighted deliveries has made him a formidable force on any pitch.
In just 88 One Day Internationals, he set a record as the fastest Indian spinner to accomplish this. Kuldeep eventually broke the record held by Anil Kumble in the process. Kumble was the previous Indian spinner to reach the milestone quickly, doing so in 106 games. Kuldeep reached this milestone on Tuesday during the Asia Cup Super-Four match versus Sri Lanka. Kuldeep, who took four wickets for 43 runs in 9.3 overs at an economy rate of 4.52, was completely unplayable throughout the game.
Kuldeep Yadav become leading wicket taker in the tournament
Kuldeep has taken 150 wickets in 88 ODIs at an average of 25.64, with his best bowling stats being 6/25. In ODIs, he has two five-wicket hauls and seven four-wicket hauls for India. The pacer Mohammed Shami, who attained 150 wickets in 80 games, is the only Indian to reach the milestone more quickly than he did. Kuldeep has also surpassed this milestone more quickly than any other Indian spinner.
Kuldeep is also the fourth-fastest spinner ever to reach 150 ODI wickets, with Sri Lanka's Ajantha Mendis (84 matches), Rashid Khan (80 matches) and Saqlain Mushtaq (78 matches) above him. With nine wickets in four games and a five-wicket haul against Pakistan, Kuldeep is the current tournament's top wicket-taker. The first game, however, was wiped out due to rain, and he was left without a wicket against Nepal. In the following match, he picked up a 5-wicket haul against Pakistan with the statistics of 5/25. And his 4-wicket performance against Sri Lanka, which yielded a 4/43, made him the tournament's leading wicket-taker.
