Suryakumar Yadav is the talk of the cricketing world after his sensational 112 in just 51 balls against Sri Lanka in the 3rd T20I. Since making his debut the 32-year-old has played with a strike rate of 180 in T20Is, enamoring all with his exceptional hitting. His stats in the shortest format of the game put him in a league of his own.

Naturally, cricket fans were expecting the batter to make it into the playing XI for the first ODI against Sri Lanka on January 10th. All of them however were given a massive shock as the team sheet revealed Yadav’s exclusion from the Guwahati match.

Soon fans took to Twitter and showcased their dismay with Suryakumar Yadav’s exclusion from the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka. Many called it a brain-dead decision while others suspected foul play and politics for Yadav not making it into the team.

A user by the name Vaibhav Jadaun wrote, “Great thinking of selectors of Indian Cricket team that Suryakumar may not find place in the team despite his dazzling batting performances. I’m so disappointed by cricket selectors.”

Another user, Rocky Singh exclaimed, “That’s why India is not winning an ICC tournament because players like surya Ishan are sitting out when they are performing well.”

Here's how Twitter reacted:

India recently won the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka after winning the first and third matches. The Indian management has switched their focus on the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023 which is scheduled to be hosted in India later this year.

Team India has underperformed in major tournaments since winning the Champions Trophy in 2013. Recently the Rohit Sharma-led side failed to win the Asia Cup 2022 as well as the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. Many changes are now being made that are focussed on bringing the coveted trophy.

It is to be seen what those changes do for the overall performance on the pitch when the mega event rolls around at the end of the year.
