The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the Men's ODI Team of the Year 2022, with Pakistan's Babar Azam being named as the captain of the team. The team includes a mix of experienced players and rising stars, all of whom have had a standout year in the 50-over format.
Babar Azam, who is considered one of the best batsmen in the world, has had a fantastic year in ODI cricket. He has scored 679 runs at an average of 84.87. As the captain of the Pakistan national team, Babar has led from the front and guided his team to several important victories.
Australia's Travis Head and West Indies' Shai Hope are also included in the team as top-order batsmen. Head has been in great form for Australia, scoring 550 runs at an average of 68.75, while Hope has been one of the most consistent performers for the West Indies, scoring 709 runs at an average of 34.45.
Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer and New Zealand's Tom Latham, who is also the wicket-keeper of the team, provide stability and solidity in the middle order. Iyer has been a key player for India in the middle order, scoring 724 runs at an average of 55.69, while Latham has been a mainstay in the New Zealand team, scoring 558 runs at an average of 55.80 with 2 centuries.
The all-rounder spot in the team goes to Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza. Raza has been in excellent form with both bat and ball, scoring 645 runs at an average of 49.61 and taking 8 wickets.
In the bowling department, Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan provides the spin options, while India's Mohammad Siraj, West Indies Alzzari Joseph and New Zealand's Trent Boult lead the pace attack. Mehidy has been a key player for Bangladesh, taking 24 wickets at an average of 28.20, while Joseph has been one of the best fast bowlers in the world, taking 27 wickets at an average of 25.70. Siraj has been in great form for India, taking 24 wickets at an average of 23.50, while Boult has been a mainstay in the New Zealand team, taking 18 wickets at an average of 10.38. Finally, Australia's Adam Zampa completes the team as the main spinner, he took 30 wickets.
This team comprises of some of the best ODI players in the world and they have all had a fantastic year in the 50-over format. Their performances have been crucial in helping their respective teams achieve success and this team is a reflection of their efforts and contributions.
As is the case with cricket fans, however, not many were impressed with the team.
