KL Rahul's groin injury forced him out of the T20I series against South Africa and he missed the England tour too. The youngster is currently going through rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He is all set to make his return in the white ball against West Indies, and he will travel to the Caribbean if he gets fit. It has now been learned that KL Rahul might lead India against Zimbabwe staring from August 18.

The cricket board of Zimbabwe announced that the Indian cricket team will be touring the country for a three-match ODI series. The first ODI will be played on August 18, followed by one on August 20 and the last on August 22. The Indian squad is yet to be announced for the Zimbabwe tour. The regular captain of India, Rohit Sharma, is expected to be rested against Zimbabwe. The star-batter Kohli has been rested for the series against West Indies and might also miss the Zimbabwe tour.

In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul might get to wear the captaincy hat once again, a report from PTI revealed. The batter is working hard at the Cricket Academy to ensure that he makes a comeback to the Indian white-ball team and this might be a motivation for him. KL Rahul, last captained the ODI team against South Africa earlier this year and the Indian Team was whitewashed by the South African team.

The youngster might look forward to making an impression as a captain and this tour might be a big opportunity for him, if all goes right. The stylish right-handed batter might also look to make an impression with his bat, given that it has been a few months since he last represented India. With an added responsibility to his name, we cannot be surprised if he comes up with some splendid knocks against Zimbabwe. KL Rahul might target this ODI series against Zimbabwe to cement his place in the 2023 World Cup squad.
