Kolkata Knight Riders are all set to take on the defending champions Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday after a huge victory against Royal Challengers by 81 runs at the Eden Gardens. KKR lost their first match to Punjab Kings but made a great comeback against RCB.
Batting first in Kolkata, KKR posted 204 for 7 powered by the fiery knock by Shardul Thakur after the early fall of the wickets. The 31-year-old smashed 68 runs off 29 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes. After that, KKR’s spin department did their work well as RCB got bowled out for 123 runs in 17.4 overs.
Sunil Narine set the tone by picking the wicket of Virat Kohli and went to take the wicket of Michael Bracewell. After that, Varun Chakravarthy threw some magic deliveries to get rid of Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell and Harshal Patel and finished the game by dismissing Akash Deep.
'With the impact player rule it gives us a lot of options' - Bharat Arun
Another player who impressed everyone with his spin bowling was the debutant, Suyash Sharma. Coming as an impact player, Suyash scalped 3 wickets for KKR, dismissing the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat and Karn Sharma. The spin trio took 9 wickets together in the match on a pitch that supports fast bowlers and bounce. KKR bowling coach, Bharat Arun revealed that the management is looking forward to going ahead with the three spinners in a match against GT.
"With the impact player rule it gives us a lot of options, we would be excited to go with three mystery spinners, as you would call it," Arun said during a media interaction.
"That's something on the go. It's got to be a very dynamic decision, we will take it on the go. We saw a lot of potential in him before we picked him. We saw him in a couple of games and he was exciting,” he further added.
GT are also in great form as they are coming after winning their first two matches consecutively against Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. KKR, too, will be looking to continue their winning momentum under the captaincy of the stand-in skipper Nitish Rana.
“He's young. He is got very good cricketing acumen, that's the reason we have chosen him as the captain. We are confident that he'll be doing well for us," said Arun about Rana.
