The Indian Cricket Board took the initiative to launch the Women’s T20 League after the huge success of the Indian T20 League. On February 13, many players were auctioned for the 5 franchise teams of the inaugural season. Indian opener Smriti Mandhana became the most expensive player as she was signed by Mumbai for INR 3.4 cr, while there were many players who could not find any buyer.

The Indian Cricket Board is all set to kick off the inaugural edition of the Women's T20 League with much fanfare. This historic tournament will be starting on March 4 and the official cricket board of India made special preparations for the opening ceremony of the league. The board has invited Bollywood stars, Kiara Advani, and Kriti Sanon as well as Punjabi singer AP Dhillon to perform at the grand opening ceremony of the league.

As per reports, the Indian Cricket Board has also planned an anthem song for the league, which will be sung by legendary singer Shankar Mahadevan. The first match of the tournament will be played between Mumbai and Gujarat at DY Patil Stadium on March 4.

Smriti Mandhana became the most expensive player in the league

The official account of the Women’s T20 League also shared a poster on its Twitter handle, stating that Kiara, Kriti, and AP will be performing at the opening ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 pm, while entry into the stadium will begin at 4 pm.

The Women’s T20 League marks a tipping point in the legacy of women’s cricket in India. From the sport being available as a hobby to steps being taken towards an increasingly professional setup, the women’s game has come a long way.

Ashleigh Gardener was the most expensive overseas player who was signed at a whopping price of INR 3.2 crores. There were many veteran cricketers who could not find any buyers. England batter Danielle Wyatt was one of them as not a single franchise showed interest in her.
