The ODI World Cup 2023 is a mere two weeks away and the event has already caused lots of excitement. The tournament may be causing lots of anticipation but there is sad news on the horizon.

One legendary cricketer is set to hang up his boots from all forms of cricket. This news has come out of the blue and caught a few fans by surprise. Once the news of the impending retirement came out, many fans stormed the social media. The fans and cricketing fraternity were left in shock with the news with the World Cup around the corner.

Legendary star set to retire from all forms of cricket –

Former England skipper Alastair Cook is set to retire from all forms of cricket. The 38-year-old is still playing county cricket for Essex. The left-hander is the highest run-getting and century-maker for England in Test cricket.

In a report carried by Daily Mail, the former England skipper wants to focus on his family. Cook, has also become a cricket pundit and wants to focus more time on his commentary duties.

Alastair Cook is currently playing in the division one of County Cricket for Essex. The team from Chelmsford has played 13 games so far this season. Essex has 190 points and trails Surrey by 18 points.

As far as his batting form is concerned, Alastair Cook has scored 808 runs from his 13 matches this season. The 38-year-old has scored one century, along with 6 half-centuries with an average of 36.

The former England captain wants to win another County title with Essex before he hangs up his boots. The county side plans to have a quiet ceremony at the end of the season to honour the batter.

In 2019, Essex won the county title after Alastair Cook retired from international cricket a year earlier. The left-handed batter has so far played 350 First Class games and scored 26,615 runs. Cook has hit 74 centuries and 125 half-centuries and taken 385 catches.

Making his debut at the age of 21 in India, Alastair Cook scored a century on his test debut. In 2018, aged just 33, Cook walked away from the game after scoring a century in his final game against India.
