Galle Titans defeated B-Love Kandy by 83 runs in the fifth match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) at Colombo. Titans are now placed at the top of the table with this win, and they now have two wins in two matches they have played this season. Kandy-based side is at the bottom of the table after back-to-back losses in LPL 2023. 

At the start of the match, Dasun Shanaka-led Titans won the toss and elected to bat first, Galle started their innings well with an opening partnership of 33 runs but lost the opening stand in the last ball of the fifth over. After that, two wickets fell in a continuous manner, and the Titans' side lost three wickets until the 60-run mark. 

Tim Seifert kept the innings steady, coming in at the No. 4 position for his side. Seifert scored 74 runs in 39 balls; Bangladesh star batter Shakib Al Hasan supported him and took his side to a score of 180/5 in 20 overs. Kandy’s bowling didn’t have much flavour; only Mohammad Hasnain and Wanindu Hasaranga were able to restrict the batter from scoring, they together picked two wickets and bowled under the economy of seven.

In reply, the Kandy side lost the wicket in the first over itself and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the fifth over of the innings, they lost four wickets for a score of 26. Skipper Hasaranga was dismissed for the score of nine runs Ashen Bandara was the top scorer with 27 runs in 19 balls, and at last, the Kandy side was bowled out for 97 runs.

Looking at the Titans' bowling, it was steady throughout the innings, Kasun Rajitha, Richard Ngarava, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Shakib Al Hasan together picked two wickets each for their side. While New Zealand batter, Seifert was awarded player of the match for his innings of 74 runs in 39 balls, which included five sixes and five boundaries, Now for the sixth match of the LPL 2023, B-Love Kandy and Dambulla Aura will take on each other on August 4.
