Temple festivals are quite normal in India and highly auspicious in Southern India. People usually host local games, competitions, devotional music, and sports to celebrate the festival. Kabaddi matches during temple festivals are a usual occurrence and people in and around the city would participate in the event.

In one of the festivals held at Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India, a Kabaddi player risked doing a somersault. And it did have an adverse effect on him as he collapsed midway. He had to be shifted to hospital and was declared dead after not responding to the treatment on August 15.

The incident reportedly took place during the Mariyamman Temple festival in Arani Town, Thiruvannamalai district. The individual was identified as a local named ‘Vinod Kumar’. And people suspected that he might have hurt his neck while doing the stunt.

Vinod Kumar was taken to Arani Government Hospital for immediate treatment. He was then transported to Vellore Government Medical College for better treatment. Failing to respond, he was, once again, shifted to Chennai Government Hospital. But all went in vain as he died on August 15th. The incident reportedly took place on August 8th. He had to spend more than a week in hospital before he breathed his last.

The video has now been widely shared on the internet. In the video, Vinod Kumar could be seen attempting a somersault in a crowded area. Although he got it the first time, he missed the stunt on the second attempt and hurt his neck. He fell down thrashing his neck on the ground.

People nearby him did not bat an eye and helped him with first aid. Stunts are usually common at these festivals. However, it is up to the people to remain responsible while performing such acts. It might have an adverse effect on the festivals too. It is reported that Vinod Kumar has two sons and lived with his wife Sivagami.
