Lionel Messi's transfer saga was a hot topic in the football fraternity, and it ended with his surprising move to Major League Soccer (MLS) team Inter Miami. The Argentine finally made his debut in the United States, and he did it in the most sensational way possible. Messi's stunning free-kick goal in stoppage time gave his side a thrilling 2-1 win against Cruz Azul and provided one of the biggest nights in MLS history.
Miami took the first lead with Finnish midfielder Robert Taylor scoring just before half-time. But Cruz Azul equalised after Miami debutant Messi entered the field in the second half. Azul winger Uriel Antuna netted in the 65th minute. With the game seemingly ending in a draw, Miami won a free-kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time and Messi shook the net with a magnificent shot.
Taking the shot from just outside the box, the 2022 World Cup winner assessed the Azul goalkeeper's position before curling his shot to the keeper's right and into the top corner to deliver Miami a thrilling victory at Fort Lauderdale in Florida.
