The Big Bash League has been high-octane and wonderful to see. Cricket has been a top draw with wonderful exhibitions being put on with both bat and ball by the Australian players. This edition of the league has been mostly a high scoring one, but this edition has also seen a game where Sydney Thunder has been all-out for just 15.
The 25th match was played on Jan 1, 2023, between the Sydney Sixers and the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba in Brisbane. Brisbane Heat won the toss and chose to bat. Colin Munro fell early to Ben Dwarshius for just 10 off 6 balls. From then on it was all Brisbane Heat as Josh Brown and McSweeney tore into the Sydney Sixers bowling attack.
Josh Brown was particularly more severe on the bowlers with his six-hitting prowess Brown made a quickfire 62 off 23 balls with four fours and six sixes. He lit up the Gabba with his big hitting. McSweeney smashed 84 off 51 balls with eight fours and three sixes. The partnership between these two helped the Brisbane Heat to mount a huge total of 224-5 in 20 overs.

Michael Nesser picked up three wickets with the ball for Brisbane Heat
In reply, Sydney Sixers played well with the bat and made 209-10 in their 20 overs with contributions from James Vince who made 41 off 24 balls with five fours and two sixes. Jordan Silk also made 41 off 23 balls with three fours and two sixes. Hayden Kerr made a quick 27 off 15 balls with two fours and one six.
The Brisbane Heat bowlers came together to put up a good bowling performance with Michael Nesser picking up 3-41 in his four overs. Mathew Kuhnemann picked up 2-31 in his four overs. Ross Whitely bowled just one over but conceded just two runs and picked up two wickets. Brisbane Heat won a close encounter by 15 runs.
The Big Bash League could get a lot more eyeballs if the cream of Australian Cricket did not have international commitments in the period of the Australian summer when the league is generally played. The players who are representing Australia such as Warner and Smith end up playing only five games maximum.
