Pakistan and New Zealand are facing off against each other at the Sydney Cricket Ground. This is a kind of a repeat of the 1992 World Cup where Pakistan trounced New Zealand to qualify for the finals where they beat England to get World Cup glory.
On another note, England will be taking on India in the second semi-final at Adelaide. All cricket fans around the world have this thought on their minds that there can be yet another India-Pakistan encounter in the semi-finals.
All the cricket pundits around the world are also wishing for the same thing but Jos Butler has expressed strong views and he has said that nothing of sort will happen. Talking about this hot topic at the press conference, Jos Buttler said that they don't want such an idea to become a reality.
"Look, we certainly don't want to see an India and Pakistan final. So we will try and do everything we can to make sure that doesn't happen," said Butler in a pre-match press conference.
New Zealand and Pakistan to face in the semifinals
When speaking about the head-to-head record, New Zealand and Pakistan have clashed against each other six times across all 20-20 World Cup editions. Where the Kiwis have trumped the Pakistan side four times while the Blackcaps have managed to win on two occasions.
Pakistan started the 20-20 World Cup on a torrid note losing two games in the first two encounters to India and Zimbabwe before turning it around in their last two games against South Africa and Bangladesh where they beat their cross-border neighbours by five wickets to book a place in the semi-final.
New Zealand started off with a dominating 89-run win against Australia and in the Super 12 stages won all their games except one where they lost to England by 20 runs. The winner of this match goes to the final of 20-20 World Cup 2022. New Zealand will be hoping to go one step ahead as compared to last year and Pakistan will hope for a repeat of 1992
