Under the captain of Hardik Pandya, India could have lost the first ODI of the three-match series against Australia on Friday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. However, a sensational knock from KL Rahul helped India beat Australia by 5 wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

In pursuit of a 189-run target, India had lost four wickets for just 39 runs on the board. However, the arrival of KL Rahul turned things around for them. He added 44 runs for the fifth wicket with Hardik Pandya. The latter got out after contributing 25 runs in 31 balls and, India, thus were five down for 83 runs on the board.

KL Rahul, however, on the other hand, showed a lot more composure. He joined hands with Ravindra Jadeja and led India’s recovery. Rahul ensured he respected the good deliveries and send all bad deliveries to the boundary ropes.

The right-handed batter hit 7 fours and 1 six en-route to his match-winning unbeaten knock of 75 runs in 91 deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja supported him well as he too remained unbeaten on 45 off 69. Thanks to the partnership, India chased down the target in 39.5 overs with five wickets in hand.

Of late, KL Rahul received a lot of criticism for his poor performances. He was also stripped off from the role of vice-captain in Tests, recently. With the knock on Friday, Rahul has, certainly, given a tight slap to all those who doubted his place in the team. Amidst that, former Indian fast bowler, V Prasad took to Twitter and praised the Indian batter for his excellent match-winning knock.

“Excellent composure under pressure and a brilliant innings by KL Rahul. Top knock. Great support by Ravindra Jadeja and a good win for India.”
