Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clashed against the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 45th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atat Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, May 3. However, the Lucknow crowd left disappointed as the rain interrupted the play and the match was called off later as the rain didn't stop. The ground staff had to put out the covers to protect the pitch and ground as it began to rain just four balls before the first inning was set to end.

However, during this rain delay, the legendary Jonty Rhodes, the fielding coach for LSG, assisted the ground staff. Rhodes, who was renowned for his athleticism and brilliance on the pitch during his playing career, assisted the grounds crew in removing the covers to keep the pitch dry. Rhodes' gesture, not only aided the stadium's ground personnel in their work but also garnered the admiration of the crowd. Many people praised the former South African cricketer on social media for his humility and willingness to lend a hand.

Brilliant batting by Ayush Badoni in death overs

Speaking of the game, LSG started horribly, as they lost their first five wickets for just 44 runs in the tenth over. LSG were asked to bat first after MS Dhoni won the toss, and Krunal Pandya was in charge because KL Rahul was injured after tearing his hamstring against RCB in the previous game. The hosts lost their star allrounder Kyle Mayers early on before Manan Vohra and Krunal followed suit in back-to-back balls.

However, later the wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran and young right-hander Ayush Badoni steadied the ship and stitched a beautiful 58-run stand for the 6th wicket but the former fell in the 18th over after playing an unusual 31-ball 20-run knock. Badoni continued his brilliance and shifted gears in the death overs as he smashed an outstanding half-century and remained unbeaten on 59 runs until the rain interrupted the game.
