Pakistan came to the Asia Cup 2023 as the favourite to win the trophy. But, in the ‘Super 4’ stage, they defeated only Bangladesh and lost against India and Sri Lanka respectively. Eventually, they ended up being the fourth team and it was a disappointing performance for their fans.

Now, according to the reports of Bolnews, skipper Babar Azam and Pakistan’s ace pacer, Shaheem Shah Afridi had a heated exchange between them in the dressing room after the Asia Cup exit. Reports suggested that Babar asked players to play with more responsibility. In reply to that, Afridi told Babar to appreciate those plates atleast who had bowled or batted well. Then, Babar claimed that he knew who was playing or not and shared his displeasure with the interruption. Mohammad Rizwan came up and stopped the argument. Seeing such reports, fans were not happy and shared their views on social media.

“In the middle overs, we did not bowl well.” - Babar Azam

After the loss against the Lankans, Babar was not happy at all and blamed his bowlers openly. He claimed that his bowlers let him down with their performance in the middle overs and that cost them the game.

Babar said: “We just decided to bowl our best overs and asked Shaheen to bowl the second last over and believed in Zaman. Sri Lanka played very well, better cricket than us. We have not been up to the mark in the bowling and fielding. That is why we lost the match. In the middle overs, we did not bowl well. That partnership cost us. We started well, ended well, but middle overs were not great. We have lacked that.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan missed the services of Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah in that game due to injuries. Hence, along with Shaheen Afridi, they played Mohammad Wasim Jr. and debutant, Zaman Khan. They failed to defend 252 runs as Sri Lanka chased down the target on the last delivery to win a thriller in Colombo.
