The injury sustained by Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the Asia Cup 2022 is proving to be a massive sore thumb for the team. The premium fast bowler missed the Asia Cup 2022, the 20-20 World Cup, and every series after that.
Bumrah has now been ruled out of the Sri Lanka series but his return for the all-important New Zealand series as well as the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
The right-arm fast bowler was expected to be back for the Sri Lanka series but after completing the match simulation on the first day, Bumrah complained of back issues when the load was increased the next day. Immediately it was decided that it would be better for the player as well as the team to pull Bumrah out of the ODI squad and not take any chances.
The Indian management is currently focussed on winning the ODI World Cup which is scheduled to be held in India by the end of this year. Since Bumrah is an important player for the team, the management wants him fully fit to make chances of a World Cup win even stronger.
Bumrah is currently going through rehabilitation for his back issues and a new report has said that he could be back for the final two Test matches against Australia.
"After clearing those tests at the NCA last week, Bumrah had fresh bowling tests in Mumbai under the supervision of Nitin Patel, the head of NCA's sports science wing and the final authority on a player's fitness clearance. It was after those tests, combined with the scan results, that it was determined Bumrah would need more rehab time," the report said.
