On 14 December 2022, Kandy Falcons took on Jaffna Kings in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL). It was the 13th match of this tournament that took place in Pallekele. Before this match, Kandy Falcons were sitting at the top of the table with eight points in five matches. On the other hand, Jaffna Kings were sitting at the second spot with eight points from five games.

So, both teams were looking to seal the top spot with a win in this game. Meanwhile, Kandy Flacons were coming off after a victory over Dambulla Aura. While Jaffna Kings were coming off after a victory over Colombo Stars. Speaking of the match, Wanindu Hasaranga won the toss and opted to bat first.

For Falcons, Pathum Nissanka and Andre Fletcher came out to open the innings. However, they were in a spot of bother when they lost six wickets for just 79 runs in 13.2 overs. But, Fabian Allen came up with a blistering knock. He scored 47 runs off 23 balls, including three fours and four sixes. He batted at a strike rate of 204.34. Thus, Kandy Falcons posted a total of 160 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Four different bowlers Dunith Wellalage, Dilshan Madhushanka, Waqar Salamkheli, and James Fuller took two wickets each for Jaffna Kings.

In reply, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Avishka Fernando came out to open the innings for Jaffna. But, they failed to give a steady start to their team as two wickets were gone after scoring only five runs. However, Avishka Ferrando scored 33 runs off 20 balls, including four boundaries and one six. Then, Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 48 runs off 41 balls, including five fours. Thus, in 17 overs, they managed only 125 runs for seven wickets. Carlos Brathwaite took four wickets for 18 runs in four overs. Finally, they managed only 150 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. Thus, Kandy Falcons won the match by 10 runs.
