Gujarat Titans faced off against Chennai Super Kings in the final of the 2023 Indian Premier League on the reserve day i.e., Monday. Gujarat Titans lost the toss and had to bat first on a good track at the Narendra Modi Stadium. It was quite uncharacteristic of CSK tonight to miss catches and exhaust opportunities in large numbers, which might play a significant role. Even their fielding on the ground was subpar, as they gave up a few free runs which is a thing the CSK skipper doesn’t like at all.

Gill was dropped by Chahar during the second over and it was a dolly which should have been caught. 30 runs coming from the third and fourth overs combined after that and GT finally found their momentum as a result of that.

Despite missing a very simple opportunity to dismiss Saha, Jadeja managed to outwit Gill with a stunning move during the same over. Saha went on to hit a fifty, but Sudharsan tonight was the true game-changer. He batted at a higher level and continued to find the boundaries haphazardly.

He missed out on a ton but the young man did remarkably well. Pathirana finished strong but the damage was already done by then. The bowling was off the mark for CSK. Chasing a target over 200 in an IPL final is a mammoth task but rain came back to play spoilsport and the match lost some overs.

Taking a look at the CSK chase in the 2023 IPL final

The chase, which was reduced to 15 overs, started off to a strong start, thanks to the opening pair of Ruturaj and Devon Conway. Conway was the one who acted more forcefully, neutralizing Shami as well as Hardik during the powerplay. When Noor Ahmad was added to the team, GT was able to secure two wickets in one over.

The scoring rate appeared to be slowing down, but Ajinkya Rahane emerged and hit two elegant sixes from Josh Little. While his partner Dube was having trouble with timing, he eventually scored two boundaries against Rashid. In the final over by Rashid Khan, Dube finally regained his form, smashing him for two sixes and bringing CSK back into the game.

The next CSK batsman to emerge as a hero was Rayudu, who was the only one to choose one of Mohit Sharma's slower pitches and smash it past the boundary ropes. Rayudu collapsed, and Dhoni was out on the first pitch. After that, Mohit Sharma bowled almost the ideal last over, hitting four yorkers, but Sir Jadeja decided to have the last laugh, capping the game with a six as well as a four to cement his legacy as a CSK legend.
