The Indian team bowed out of the Asia Cup 2022 after a dismal performance. Right after the continental tournament, the Indian Cricket Board announced the 15-member squad for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Many former cricketers slammed the selectors and questioned the inclusion of a few players.

A lot of fans opined that the selectors should have included Mohammed Shami in the main squad. However, the player has tested positive for Covid-19 and his future remains uncertain at present.

India did not do well in the continental tournament held in the UAE. Albeit they got off to a good start with a win against Pakistan, they lost to them in the Super 4s round. Fans and experts brought Rohit Sharma under the scanner and slammed him for his captaincy.

20-20 World Cup 2022 will get underway in October and teams are working hard in the bilateral series ahead of the tournament. While many former cricketers questioned the selection, Sunil Gavaskar backed the Indian team and said that everyone must wish the team for the mega event.

'We all have to back it'- Sunil Gavaskar on the 20-20 World Cup 2022 squad

Sunil Gavaskar backed the Indian team and said that the team deserves to be backed. He highlighted the importance of standing by the team ahead of such a crucial tournament. Gavaskar further added that the team can clinch the 20-20 World Cup 2022 title with a bit of luck.

“I believe that this team, with a bit of luck that every team needs, can bring home the trophy. Once the team is selected, then it’s our India team and we all have to back it. We shouldn’t question selections and omissions as it can demoralise some of the players," the 73-year-old said.

Before that, India will play against the Australian team in a three-match T20I series in India. The Men in Blue will then play a three-match T20I series against South Africa at home. The two series will be a crucial one for the Rohit Sharma-led team as it will be their final preparation ahead of the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
