'It's Green all around Wankhede' - Fans react as Cameron Green's century helps MI beat SRH by 8 wickets to inch closer to playoffs

In a must-win game for the Mumbai Indians, they hosted Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 69th match of the Indian Premier League 2023. While SRH had nothing to lose, MI needed to win because their destiny relied on it.

After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first at Wankhede Stadium because chasing has been their strength this season. However, this choice did not work for them in the first place. SRH openers Mayank Agarwal and Vivrant Sharma set the stage on fire with the biggest partnership for the team this season.

The duo scored 140 runs for the first wicket stand, with each scoring a half-century. With the wicket of Sharma (69 runs in 47 balls) in the 14th over, Akash Madhwal gave MI their breakthrough. In the 17th over, he took the wicket of Agarwal (83 runs in 46 balls).

Despite losing a few more wickets, the visitors reached 200 in the first innings thanks to cameos from Heinrich Klaasen (18) and Aiden Markram (13). Madhwal claimed four wickets for MI, while Chris Jordan only took one.

Cameron Green sets the stage on fire

In the chase, the five-time champions lost Ishan Kishan early on, but Rohit and Cameron Green set the stage on fire. They didn't let the early setback upset them, as the all-rounder began striking right away, while the captain played second fiddle.

The SRH bowlers had no answers to the destruction by the two, who added 128 runs for the second wicket partnership. Rohit was finally dismissed by Mayank Dagar in the 14th over after he had scored 56 runs in 37 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav then joined the party as Green neared his maiden century in the tournament. Green (100 runs in 47 balls) was eventually able to get there as he hit the winning runs for his team. MI defeated SRH by 8 wickets to inch closer to a playoff spot. They will now closely monitor the RCB vs GT to see who makes it through.
