The entire Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team was fined for maintaining a slow overrate in their match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, April 23. Virat Kohli-led RCB cruised to a thrilling 7-run victory to register their fourth win of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), but it was the franchise's second violation of the IPL's Code of Conduct this season.

In a statement issued by the IPL, it was revealed that RCB stand-in skipper Kohli has been fined Rs. 24 lakhs, and as it was the team's second offence, all players in the playing XI, including the impact substitute, were also penalised.

“Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had named Virat Kohli as their Captain for their game against Rajasthan Royals, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 23, 2023,” said the league in its statement.

“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Kohli has been fined Rs. 24 lahks and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, is fined Rs. 6 lahks or 25 per cent of the match fee, whichever is lesser,” it added.

Kohli will get a one-match ban if he maintains a slow overrate one more time

When RCB played Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), regular captain Faf du Plessis was fined 10% of his match fee for the same offence he committed against RR. Due to a rib injury, their regular captain Du Plessis didn’t come to the field when the team was bowling, thus Kohli took over as captain.

Kohli also led his side against Punjab Kings in a 24-run win. If Du Plessis does not recover from injury, Kohli will lead in the upcoming matches as well. The star Indian batter will be fined Rs 30 lakh and given a one-match ban if he maintains a slow overrate for the third time this season.
