Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam will not feature in the play-offs of the LPL (Lanka Premier League) 2023 as his side, the Colombo Strikers, was knocked out after getting defeated by the Galle Titans. The Strikers lost five games in the eight matches they played this season and finished in the last position in the points table. In the LPL 2023 points table, Dambulla Aura is at the top with six wins, followed by Titans, B-Love Kandy, and Jaffna Kings.

Interestingly, Babar after the playoffs ended, remained at the top of the run scorer list of LPL 2023, with his 261 runs in eight games for Strikers. Pakistan’s talisman only managed six runs in the last must-win league game against Titans, as he was bowled by Lahiru Kumara. At the second spot after Babar is Tim Seifert of Galle Titans in the list of most runs scored in the LPL 2023, Seifert has scored 231 runs in seven games he has played for the side, for an average of 38.5 in the tournament. The wicketkeeper batter has hit three fifties and will undoubtedly play an essential role for the Titans in the knockout fixtures.

Babar Azam’s Colombo Strikers were bowled out for 74 runs

Speaking of the last league game of the LPL 2023, the Dasun Shanaka-led side won the toss and opted to field first. Strikers openers Babar and Pathum Nissanka were dismissed within the third over, and after that, half of the side was in the pavilion in the 11th over, only four batters in the whole team were able to touch the double-digit mark as they were bowled out for 74 runs. As a result, Titans' Tabraiz Shamsi was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling spell of 4/20.

In the chase, it was not an easy start for the Titans as they lost two wickets within the initial four overs but Shakib Al Hasan Lasith Croospulle stood in the crease and chased down the easy target with eight wickets in hand and 69 balls remaining. Now for the first Qualifier, Dambulla Aura will take on Galle Titans on August 17 at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
