The Indian T20 League is just two months away as fans are eagerly waiting for the T20 extravaganza to get underway. All ten franchises have made some notable additions to their squad in the recent mini-auction. Some big stars were roped in by the teams like Ben Stokes, Cameron Green and Sam Curran who were sold for big bucks.
However, there were several unknown players who also got to be a part of the Indian T20 League franchise. While they may have been added to the squad but getting a place in the side might turn out to be a herculean task for them. On that note, let’s take a look at the five such players.
ITL 2023 Here are the five (5) popular players may be benched in the ITL 2023 season:
1 Duan Jansen
Brother of South African seamer Marco Jansen, Duan Jansen was picked up by the Mumbai Franchise for 20 lakhs in the Indian T20 League mini-auction 2023. Like his brother, Duan is also a left-arm pacer. He has played in the CPL for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. He has picked up 32 First Class, 19 List A, and 20 T20 Wickets. He was picked up by MI Cape Town for the SA20 League but might find it difficult to break through in this Indian T20 League season.
2 Kamlesh Nagarkoti
The young pace sensation Kamlesh Nagarkoti was retained by Delhi despite being benched throughout the Indian T20 League 2022. Kolkata have plenty of good bowling options at their disposal which will make it difficult for the U19 seamer to break through in playing XI.
3 Romario Shepherd
The West Indian all rounder was picked up by the Lucknow Franchise for 50 lakhs. Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran are expected to be the four regular overseas players. The West Indian star will find it hard to find a place in the XI. He played just three games for the Hyderabad franchise in Indian T20 League 2022
4 Kyle Mayers
The Lucknow franchise retained Kyle Mayers ahead of the Indian T20 League 2023 auction. The West Indian has become a handy cricketer in the shortest format as he scores heavily at the top of the order and bowls some crucial overs with the ball.
Mayers didn't play a single game for Lucknow last year which might continue this year as well. In KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, Lucknow have a settled opening pair. The other three overseas slots are likely to go to Mark Wood, Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis.
5 Daniel Sams
Daniel Sams was picked up for Rs 75 lakhs by Lucknow. The all-rounder has made vital contributions to his respective franchises in the shortest format and is a valuable asset on his day. However, like Mayers, Sams may not fit into Lucknow’s ideal overseas combination. Although he turned in a couple of promising displays while playing for Mumbai last year, the left-armer might not have a big role to play for Lucknow in Indian T20 League 2023.
