Rehan Ahmed, a 17-year-old leg spinner, has been training with England these days. He is already being considered the future star of England. Now the young spinner has revealed that he bowled out Alastair Cook and Ben Stokes in the year 2016. Ahmed, who is yet to make his debut, told Daily Mail that he bowled Ben Stokes out with a googly.
Rehan Ahmed was, recently, called up for the England Lions squad. The team faced South Africa in two 50 overs warm-up games and Ahmed featured in the first game. He bagged the wickets of Rassie van der Dussen, J Malan and Aiden Markram. He said that he was extremely happy with the Lions call-up. “I loved the challenge. It was a great experience. Even though I went for a few runs, the captain Tom Abell backed me and it's wickets that matter,” Ahmed added.
The young spinner has been under the watch of the England’s selectors for quite some time now. It is quite sure now that he’ll be making his debut for England soon. Ahmed had told to ESPNCricinfo, earlier, that he was nervous when he bowled to Alastair Cook and Ben Stokes back in 2016. He said that he bowled out Stokes with a googly. The former was just 11 years old then and has been training with the England team for a long time now.
“Since I was a kid, I've dreamed of playing for England but I try to live the moment. Night time is for dreaming, so whenever I am awake I focus on the present and doing my job,” Ahmed added. Rehan Ahmed was also a part of the under-19 world cup and was pretty impressive. He plays for Leicestershire in the T20 Blast. And the spinner concluded by saying that he did not celebrate when he bowled out Ben Stokes. Ahmed said that Stokes was pretty unhappy. And he added that he just took the ball and went off.
Rehan Ahmed will play in the England jersey very soon. It's just a matter of time until he gets a call-up to the national squad. Being young and talented, it is sure that he’ll play for England for quite a long time.
