Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), led the run-chase against the Gujarat Titans (GT), the reigning champions, in a spectacular display. Samson led the team home with an undefeated 56 off 26, while Shimron Hetmyer led them to victory in the 178-run chase with a stunning 32-ball 60. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 rankings were won by the Royals, and social media was awash with discussion on Samson's worldwide standing. Even well-known cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle tweeted a direct warning to the national selectors.

One of the best batters in white-ball cricket is still Samson. Despite being in and out of the Indian team, many think that the wicket-keeper batter might become one of the best players in Indian cricket with a sustained performance in the T20I squad.

Bhogle tweeted as he observed Samson leading the charge for the Royals against the Titans: "I would play Sanju Samson in the Indian T20 team every day."

Sanju Samson’s captaincy has been key for RR in IPL 2023

In this IPL, Samson has not only dazzled with his bat but also his leadership. The Kerala-born batsman, who led Rajasthan to the championship game last year, is displaying a similar faith in his team this time.

"When you play quality opponents on a quality wicket, you get such games. Very happy to compete in such a game and come out on top. It was important to rotate our bowlers, they were playing some quality cricket, and we had to respect that. The whole team came up well today, and we could restrict them to around 170. The start we had, it shows how good a wicket this was. The new ball and the quality of swing bowling was good, and we had to respect that.

"But today, Zampa coming was a way to match up with the opponents. He was the match-up for Miller and almost got the wicket, but the catch was dropped. (On Hetmyer) He doesn't like easy situations; we like putting him in such situations because he usually wins us games from such situations," Samson said after the match.
