Shaheen Afridi produced one of the crazy moments of the tournament on June 30th in the ongoing T20 Blast tournament. Defending 169, the Nottinghamshire bowler claimed four wickets in the very first over. The left arm quickly created history by becoming the first bowler to claim four wickets in the first over of an innings in T20 cricket. The Khyber agency-born bowler picked the wickets on the first, second, fourth, and fifth balls of the over, respectively.

Afridi started the over with a terrific inswinging yorker. Alex Davies had no clue about the delivery whatsoever. As Shaheen and co appealed, the umpire raised his fingers to rule him LBW. The celebration from the bowler was wild. On the very next ball, Afridi bowled a similar delivery, swinging in towards the right-handed batter Chris Benjamin at a high pace. The batter tried to scoop the ball over the keeper’s head but failed completely, yorked himself, and got dismissed. Afridi had two in two and the crowd went mad.

Four wickets in five deliveries

The new batter Dan Mousley escaped the third delivery of the over. The 23-year-old pacer then bowled an outswinger to the left-handed batter. Mousley attempted to drive the full-length delivery for a boundary. But the fielder placed at the covers, Olly Stone, took a stunning catch to dismiss the batter. Afridi had the third scalp of the over. Just before things could calm down, the new batter in the middle, Ed Barnard, missed a straight full-toss delivery and gave the advantage to the opposition.

Afridi had four wickets in 5 deliveries. The crowd went berserk. There was no end to the celebrations of Afridi and Co. The incredible first over was so fun to watch. Despite the record-breaking efforts from the Nottinghamshire pacer, the team couldn’t have the last laugh. A great knock from Robert Yates, with some support from Glenn Maxwell, Jacob Bethell, and Jake Lintott helped Warwickshire register a thrilling 2-wicket victory, in the end.
