Reece Topley, a bowler for Royal Challengers Bangalore, issued an update on Wednesday following surgery for a shoulder condition that had previously prevented him from playing in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. To fill in for Josh Hazlewood, who has been dealing with fitness difficulties and even missed the India-Australia ODI series earlier this year, RCB signed Topley in the IPL 2023 auction. Topley, who was signed by RCB for INR 1.9 crore and had bowled just two overs in the season opener against Mumbai Indians, was injured in the process.

The left-arm bowler bowled two overs, taking the crucial wicket of Cameron Green, and only allowed 14 runs to be scored before being forced to leave the pitch owing to a shoulder injury. According to RCB director of cricket Mike Hesson, Topley has a dislocated shoulder and was eventually sent home after being unable to play in the IPL in 2023.

RCB has replaced Reece Topley with the South Africa pacer Wayne Parnell

According to batting coach Sanjay Bangar, Topley had successfully undergone surgery to repair his dislocated shoulder in England, who also confirmed that Topley had returned there. The tearaway pacer uploaded a photo of himself resting on a hospital bed. The Englishman appeared in good spirits as he added a funny message to the image. "Insert generic comeback quote here," read the caption of Reece Topley's post.

Many RCB supporters expressed a desire to see Topley back in play during the IPL 2024 in the comments area of Topley's post. Topley's injury was the latest setback for RCB, who are already operating without the services of all-rounder Will Jacks, who withdrew from the IPL 2023 due to a muscular issue, and Rajat Patidar, another injury victim who won't participate in the current season.

Later, the Bengaluru-based team replaced Topley and Patidar with Wayne Parnell and Vyshak Vijay Kumar. Parnell made his IPL 2023 debut against the Lucknow Super Giants, taking two wickets in the match despite RCB losing by one wicket on the final delivery. Faf du Plessis' team dropped its next two games after opening the IPL 2023 season with a convincing 8-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians. On Saturday, April 15, RCB will play Delhi Capitals at the Chinnaswamy Stadium to get back on track.
