England star all-rounder Ben Stokes is likely to return to a 50-over format fixture after taking retirement from ODIs in July last year. As per reports, England's white-ball coach Matthew Mott has disclosed that their limited overs skipper Jos Buttler will speak to Test skipper Ben Stokes to see if he will reconsider revoking his previous decision. Whereas Mott stated that England's team management is considering playing the star all-rounder only as a pure batter in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, starting on October 5.

The left-handed batter, Stokes, announced his retirement in July last year. He stated that it is becoming difficult for him to manage all the formats at the same time. At the time of his retirement, Stokes was 31 years of age. Interestingly, Stokes' heroics in the finals of the 2019 World Cup was key, as the Eoin Morgan-led England team won the World Cup as they beat New Zealand to lift the trophy for the first time.

We will see if Ben Stokes is keen: England white-ball coach Matthew Mott

“Jos will probably lead the way on that communication, but Ben’s pretty straight with all of us. We will see if he’s keen. There has not been a clear direction on what he’s going to do yet, but we are still hopeful. I’ve always said his bowling would be a bonus, but just look at what he brings with the bat, even in the field,” said Mott to Mail Sport.

“Watching him throughout the whole Ashes series, he had such a great presence. He’s done it for years when it comes to performing in one-day cricket and so he’s an invaluable commodity.” he further added.

So far, Ben has represented England in 105 ODIs and scored 2924 runs with an average of 38.98, He has three hundred with 21 fifties, while on the bowling front, he has claimed 74 wickets at an average of 42.39. However, the ODI World Cup 2023 will start on October 5, and the defending champions will surely look to retain the trophy.
