kabaddi player was injured during a match in the Chhattisgarhiya Olympics in Raigarh district on Tuesday and died while being taken to hospital. Chhattisgarhiya Olympics was inaugurated by CM Bupesh Bagael on October 6 and it will continue till January 6, 2023. The event is open and people even up to the age group of 40 years can participate in various sports events,

The kabaddi match was being played at Gharghoda region of Raigarh district, 265km from Raipur. The place was close to the Odisha border. On Tuesday, the horrific incident unfolded when a contestant, Thandaram Malakar, aged 35, was grabbed and thrown on the ground with a thud by members of the rival team. The impact was so severe that Thandaram sustained internal injuries and stopped responding, say sources.

No immediate medical assistance was available at the location as Malakar was rushed to a nearby community health centre. Upon examination, it was seen that his condition was critical, and he was referred to Rajgarh direct hospital which was 42 kilometres away.

Due to bad and deteriorated roads, It took more than four hours for the ambulance to reach the Rajgarh sources say, Malkar died on the way.

Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has announced Rs 4 lakh compensation for the family, while BJP has demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation and an FIR against the organizers for not having medical facilities on the spot.

"Such unfortunate incidents occur sometimes during sports activities. I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family, The kin will be provided with all the relief as per the rules of state government, including an assistance of Rs 4 lakh."

"This is a blatant case of negligence, and the organizers should be booked. The kin of the deceased should be given Rs 50 lakh as compensation and a government job. All the players in the Chhattisgarhiya Olympics should get health insurance. In the event of a death, the compensation should be Rs 50 lakh and those injured should get Rs 25 lakh. Those responsible for the poor condition of roads must be booked too," Choudhary BJP leader and former IAS officer said.
