The 2023 Indian T20 League auction will be held in Bengaluru on December 16, according to a report by Times of India. The 2023 edition, which will see the return of the home-and-away format after three years, is likely to start in the last week of March.

Bengaluru hosted the 2022 mega auction in February earlier this year and in December, the city will once again stage the much-awaited one-day event. The salary purse at the 2022 mega auction was Rs 90 crore, but for Indian T20 League-2023 it could be Rs 95 crore i.e Rs 5 crore more. While earlier this year was a mega auction, this year’s auction will be a mini-auction.

It will be for the second time that the Indian Cricket Board will be staging two auctions in a year. In 2018, the mega auction and mini-auction took place in a year.

Since it's a mini-auction, the franchises aren't expected to spend the whole amount during the event. The Indian T20 League franchises are expected to release the list of retained players by the end of next month.

“The next season of men’s Indian T20 League will also go back to the home-and-away format with all the 10 teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” Indian Cricket Board’s outgoing president Sourav Ganguly had mentioned in his letter to state associations on September 22.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian T20 League was limited to a few venues only in the last three years, with UAE hosting the entire tournament in 2020 and partially in 2021. The Indian Cricket Board attempted to host the Indian T20 League 2021 in India, but the second wave of the pandemic led to UAE hosting the second half.

The Indian T20 League 2022 was hosted in India, but only at four venues across Maharashtra. Meanwhile, there are several changes expected in the Indian Cricket Board administration as Sourav Ganguly is all set to be replaced by Roger Binny as President of the board. Jay Shah is expected to continue his tenure as the Secretary.
