Indian T20 League extended window almost confirmed as final draft of the Future Tours Programme is released: Reports

The near-final draft of the Future Tours Programme of the apex cricket body has come out giving an extended window for the Indian T20 League.

The near-final draft of the Future Tours Programme of the apex cricket body for the 2023-27 cycle has come out as the Indian T20 league is set to get an extended window for the coming seasons. As per the reports, England and Australia have also been provided with a window for their premier league competitions known as ‘The Hundred’ and the ‘Big Bash League’, respectively.

The Indian T20 league which was scheduled between 26th March to 29th May this year can have its next seasons extended to the first week of June for the 2023-27 cycle.

There were a total of 60 games played among eight teams during the 2014-2021 seasons of the Indian T20 league. The matches were extended to 74 games among 10 teams in 2022. The upcoming seasons of the league could see the matches extend up to 94 games per season.

As per the new draft FTP which has not yet been released officially, a three-week window across July and August has been allotted to the premier competition of the England Cricket Board, 'The Hundred’. The Australian board has the month of January for their ‘Big Bash League’. The West Indies cricket board have also made a window for CPL in August-September. The Bangladesh Premier League could be played in January every year which could also clash with UAE’s and South Africa’s franchise leagues.

The Pakistan cricket board could face some difficulty in organising their T20 league due to their packed schedule and the month of Ramzan which means that the league might have to clash with the Indian T20 league.

The draft FTP has further given confirmation of the international cricket moving towards the Franchise based leagues which almost every board getting a dedicated window for their respective leagues. No international cricket game is expected to clash with the Indian T20 league and the Hundred.

The apex cricket body is expected to announce the final draft FTP after its annual general meeting which will be held in Birmingham on July 25 and 26.
