IPL Auctions 2024: Top 5 oldest players who will feature in this year’s auction

IPL is a breeding ground for the young talent and as it's motto is - ‘where talent meets opportunity.’ This suggests that in the last 15 years it has surely lived up to its expectations. Many youngsters have taken part in the coveted tournament as an unknown commodity and came out as a household name. 

IPL has been even more special because of its inclusivity as players from different nationalities, cast, religion, and ages share the same podium and opportunity to showcase their talent. A tournament that is known for its talent and explosiveness has also opened up it's arms for some aged experienced players to showcase their mettle and prove to the world that age is just a number for these players. 

IPL 2024 also is all set to provide a platform for these players to showcase their experience and make a statement that they still have the fire left in them to prove to the world their prowess. Here is a list of the top 5 oldest players starting from oldest to youngest that will feature in the 2024 IPL Auctions:

1. Mohammad Nabi

The veteran all-rounder from Afghanistan will be the oldest player to feature in the 2024 IPL auctions. Born on 1st January, 1985, Nabi is known worldwide for his all-round abilities around the world. 

He has been a legend for Afghanistan in international cricket and has been playing in the IPL for quite some years now. Although, age is not on his side at present given his experience and all-round abilities, he will be hoping to get one more go in cricket’s most coveted T20 league.

2. David Wiese

David Wiese is a T20 veteran and an associate legend. Born on 18th May 1995, Wiese has been a key figure in the Namibia cricket team who played an integral role in Namibia's successful journey in qualifying for the 2021 T20 World Cup by scoring 227 runs and picking 6 wickets in 8 innings.

David Wiese has also been a popular name in the T20 and T10 leagues around the world and has played in almost all popular leagues across. He also has a fair share of experience playing in the IPL for multiple franchises and given his all-round abilities, he has a pretty good chance of getting another go in the IPL as he is still very fit.

3. Jalaj Saxena

While lacking extensive IPL experience, veteran cricketer Jalaj Saxena aged is poised to be the third-oldest player in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. With a solitary IPL match under his belt for PBKS in 2021, the all-rounder throws his hat in the ring with a base price of INR 40 Lakh, aiming to secure a new franchise deal given the dearth of homegrown all-round talent in India, he could still get an IPL gig.

4. Tanmay Mishra

Another uncapped Indian player after Jalaj Saxena is Tanmay Mishra. Going to be 37 in a week, Mishra will be the fourth-oldest contender in the IPL 2024 auction. Despite representing Kenya in 42 ODIs and 15 T20Is, he's registered as an uncapped Indian player. 

With a single IPL game for Deccan Chargers back in 2012 under his belt, Mishra enters the auction at the lowest base price of INR 20 Lakh, hoping to find a new IPL franchise to showcase his talent.

5. Ben Cutting

Australia’s Ben Cutting is the fifth name in the list of the oldest players who have put their name in the 2024 IPL auction. Ben Cutting was born on 30 January 1987 and has played in 5 IPL seasons where he has represented 3 franchises. 

Known for hitting a long ball towards the end of an innings, cutting is known for his brisk innings of 39 runs in just 15 balls in the 2016 IPL final which played a major role in Sunrisers Hyderabad winning the title back in 2016. He has registered himself for a base price of just Rs.50 lakhs and given his all-round abilities and his experience of playing in the IPL, he will be hoping to find another home in IPL 2024.
