Several players from associate nations have competed for various teams in the Indian T20 League over the years. In addition to competing against some of the world's best players, associate nation players have the opportunity to showcase their abilities and potential in the tournament.
The Player Auction for the 2023 season will take place on December 23 in Kochi and will feature a total of 405 players. There are 273 Indians and 132 players from other countries, including four from associate countries, among the 405 players. There are 119 total capped players, 282 uncapped players, and 4 associate country players. Let's take a look at the four Associate Nations players who will be taking part in the Auction:
#1 Karthik Meiyappan- UAE
Karthik Meiyappan, the UAE's newest leg-spinner, drew attention with his hat-trick against Sri Lanka in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Meiyappan was born in Chennai and is an Indian by birth.
Meiyappan had previously worked as a net bowler for the Chennai and Bangalore teams. In his 8 ODI and 12 T20I appearances for the national team, he has taken 10 and 18 wickets respectively. Franchises are likely to make an offer for Meiyappan in the upcoming mini-auction.
#2 David Wiese- Namibia
David Wiese, a right-arm bowling all-rounder who played for South Africa in 2016-17, got his big break when he helped Namibia, his father's birth country, advance to the Super 12 round of the 20-20 World Cup 2021.
In the competition, he won two Player of the Match awards as Namibia defeated everyone. Soon after, the Associate Nation defeated Zimbabwe in a five-match Twenty20 International series, their first against a Full Member, as he scored 48 runs and took five wickets.
#3 Rubel Trumpelmann- Namibia
Ruben Trumpelmann, a left-arm fast bowler, is Namibia's second representative on the list. Ruben, from Durban, has 12 wickets in 19 T20 Internationals for Namibia.
Because of his ability to swing the ball in the air early in the innings and extract bounce off the wicket, he is a particularly effective new ball bowler in the format. Ruben's economic rate is 6.62 in the game's shortest format. He has the potential to develop into a respectable backup player for any team.
#4 Paul van Meekeren- Netherlands
Paul Adriaan van Meekeren, a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium bowler, represents the Netherlands in cricket. He has only played in two One-Day Internationals (ODIs), both of which were in May 2013. In April 2013, he made his Twenty20 International debut against Kenya within a month of his ODI debut.
Van Meekeren, who took up to 11 wickets for the team during the 20-20 World Cup 2022, gained notoriety for giving the Dutch team an advantage with the ball during his seven appearances. Furthermore, the side required his lethal spells because he had provided breakthroughs in critical situations.
