The cricket board of Zimbabwe has announced that the Indian team will be on a tour to Zimbabwe from August 18, lasting until August 22. It has also been revealed that the series will be an integral part of the World Cup Super League that will determine the qualification of the nations for the World Cup 2023. The matches will be played on August 18,20 and 22.
This is the first time in six years that the Indian cricket team will be touring Zimbabwe. The last time they toured, MS Dhoni was captaining the Indian white-ball team. It has now been revealed that KL Rahul might captain the squad, which is yet to be announced for the Zimbabwe tour. The hosts would look to climb the Super League ladder to ensure that they qualify for the World Cup.
The Indian Cricket team is confident enough to do well in white-ball cricket, thanks to their massive victories in ODIs and T20Is against England. They are also touring the West Indies for the ODI series, starting from July 22. On the other hand, Zimbabwe might look forward to putting their best foot forward against the strong Indian team. Given that they have won only three matches in the Super League so far.
They might make the best use of this series to challenge themselves and thereby qualify for the World Cup. The young players might want to go hand in hand with the experienced players to ensure that they are ready to face the challenge moving forward. This series might be a game changer for the Zimbabwe team, provided that they perform well.
India, on the other hand, will expect KL Rahul to do well with his captaincy. Given the fact that the right-handed youngster is already leading a Lucknow-based franchise in the Indian T20 League. He might want to prove himself as a worthy and responsible captain if gets to lead India in the near future.
