In the five-match T20I series, India is ready to lock horns with South Africa in the first T20I match. This match is to be played at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on June 9 (Today) at 7.00 PM. Indian team management has appointed KL Rahul as the acting skipper of the team for the series in the absence of Rohit Sharma.
Unfortunately, it couldn't go possible as KL Rahul's name has been withdrawn from the series. After that, Management decided to hand over the captaincy to the 24-year-old Rishabh Pant. In the absence of KL Rahul, the management will definitely look for replacements for KL Rahul. So, here we'll have a look at the 3 players who might replace KL Rahul in the T20I series against South Africa.
Here's a look at 3 replacements for KL Rahul:
Rahul Tripathi
The 31-year-old batter from Ranchi amazed and impressed everyone with his stellar performances in the IPL 2022. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Tripathi managed to score 413 runs in 14 innings of 14 matches he played in the tournament. He scored runs in the tournament with an average of 37.55 having 3 half-centuries to his name.
His current batting form might ensure his place in the team to bat at the top order as the replacement for KL Rahul. Tripathi may get a chance to bat at number 3 or to open the batting if everything falls in place for the him at the time when management will look for the options.
Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson made it to the headlines when he led Rajasthan Royals through to the final of the IPL 2022. Although he has not had that many impressive outings with the bat. After batting in all 17 innings of the 17 matches he played, Samson scored 458 runs and managed to register only two fifties to his name.
But, team management might look at him as an option in place of KL Rahul. Samson has the variety and range of shots which might be a trouble for either of the bowling line-ups when he is in flow on his day. So, he may also be the choice to look on as a replacement for KL Rahul for the T20I series against South Africa.
Shikhar Dhawan
The 36-year-old senior batter has enjoyed an amazing IPL season in the recently concluded IPL 2022. He scored 460 runs in the 14 innings of the 14 matches he played for the Punjab Kings. He registered an average of 38.33 with the bat having three half-centuries to his name.
Apart from this season, he has also had a good career so far in T20Is while playing for India. Since his T20I debut against West Indies in 2011, Dhawan has played 68 T20Is so far. Batting in 66 innings of these matches, he has scored 1759 runs with an average of 27.92 having 11 half-centuries to his name. So, the team management surely think about his name to include in the squad as a strong and credible replacement for KL Rahul.
