India and South Africa are locking horns in a three-match T20I series. Much to the delight of Indian fans, the Men in Blue clinched the first match pretty dominantly. The Indian brigade looked in delicate touch and crushed the Proteas at Thiruvananthapuram. However, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah puzzled the Indian fans and now it has been revealed that he will miss out on the series due to a back injury.

To add to the misery, the Indian lead pacer will also miss the upcoming 20-20 World Cup 2022. One could imagine the damage that the injury could do to the Indian team. As it stands, the Indian cricket board confirmed earlier today that Mohammed Siraj will replace the injured pace spearhead in the ongoing series against South Africa.

An official from the Indian cricket board revealed, on condition of anonymity, that the 28-year-old might be out of action for six months. The official further revealed that the star has sustained a stress fracture and he might not recover soon. This has come to haunt the morale of team India who is aiming to make a strong comeback after a dismal 20-20 World Cup 2021.

“Bumrah is not going to play the 20-20 World Cup for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months," an official from the Indian cricket board said.

However, to comment on Mohammed Siraj, the Indian pacer has not been a part of the T20I setup since February. One might not be able to ignore the fact that the youngster had a poor outing in the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League.

The Hyderabad-born has donned the Indian jersey in five twenty-over internationals and has not made an impact yet. However, with this opportunity, Mohammed Siraj will look to make the most out of it and make an impact. All said and done, India will face South Africa in the second T20I on October 2nd at Guwahati.
