WATCH: Australia’s veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon shares special message for Ravi Ashwin on breaching 500-wicket mark in Tests

Ravichandran achieved the feat of 500 test wickets by taking the wicket of Zak Crawley and became the only 2nd Indian to achieve this feat. Anil Kumble is the only Indian spinner who is ahead of Ashwin in terms of test wickets, whereas globally Ashwin is the 9th bowler to achieve this milestone.

Ashwin is the fastest Indian bowler to achieve the 500-wicket milestone, whereas in the world he is only the 2nd fastest Indian to achieve it following Sri Lankan spin wizard Muttiah Murlidharan. isn't the first time Ashwin has broken speed records in Test cricket. 

He holds the title of the fastest Indian bowler to reach every 50-wicket mark, from 50 to 450. This consistent dominance speaks volumes about his impact on the field and his position among the greats of spin bowling.

Australia’s Nathan Lyon is the recent bowler who took 500 wickets in tests.

He achieved this feat last year against Pakistan in-home tests. Both Ashwin and Lyon are the world’s premier test-off spinners and both of them share a huge admiration for each other. Therefore, on the momentous occasion, Australia’s veteran spinner has shared a special video message for Ravi Ashwin on his amazing feat.

In the video, Lyon said, “Hi Ash, just wanted to say, massive congratulations for taking 500 Test match wickets. It’s been an incredible journey to watch. I have got nothing but respect for the way you have gone about it. It’s been amazing to be competing against you, but also learn from you. Ravi Ashwin made his test debut in November 2011 and since then he hasn’t looked back and has been India’s premier off-spinner and all-rounder in the longest format of the game. He has five centuries in this format of the game which shows the utility of the premier off-spinner in the game.

Ashwin joined an exclusive club comprising Stuart Broad and Shane Warne as the third cricketer to accomplish the impressive feat of amassing over 3000 runs and claiming more than 500 wickets in Test cricket, the pinnacle of the sport.
