Ravichandran Ashwin makes his comeback in Rajkot Test

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin pulled out of the ongoing third Test due to personal reasons after the Day Two play. He might rejoin the team during Lunch on Day Four.

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin left for a family emergency after the end of Day Two of play. On the same day, he reached his 500th Test wicket, as Zak Crawley was caught at short fine leg off his bowling. However, after the end of the day, Ashwin left the team due to personal reasons. Despite being short of one bowler, the home team managed to bowl out England for 319.

With this, the team got a massive lead of 126. At the time of writing, the Asian side has reached 256/3, leading by 382. However, as stated by the Indian Cricket Board, the two-time World Event winner has joined the team ahead of the Lunch Break on Day Four. With the return of the Tamil Nadu player, the team will get some boost in the bowling department as the Test match is coming to its close.

"The Board is pleased to announce the return of R Ashwin to the squad after a brief absence due to a family emergency," it said in a statement. "Both R Ashwin and the team management are pleased to confirm that he will be back in action on Day 4 and will continue to contribute towards the team's cause in the ongoing Test match. Ashwin and his family kindly request privacy as they navigate through these challenging times."

Meanwhile, in the ongoing Day Four, Shubman Gill has missed out on his another Test hundred, after being run out on 91. On the other hand, after the fall of Gill's wicket, Yashasvi Jaiswal came out to bat as he was retired hurt at the end of Day Three. Kuldeep Yadav, who was the night-watchman, continues to bat and has hit his first six in Tests.
