India did the T20I assignment against Australia pretty well. The team led by Rohit Sharma sealed the series 2-1 and they will now face South Africa in a three-match T20I series. There were many positives and many negatives for the Indian team. In this article, we will be taking a look at that:
Here are the three positives and three negatives for team India:
Positives:
1) Rise of Suryakumar Yadav:
Suryakumar Yadav is in threatening form and played tremendously well in the series against Australia. The Indian team are banking on the player for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. The batter amassed 115 runs at a strike rate of 185.48 in the T20 series against Australia.
He has cemented his position at number four and his presence will be extremely crucial for team India in the tournament.
2) Virat Kohli’s rhythm:
After the break, the Indian veteran looks in decent touch and this can come as a plus for team India. The Rohit Sharma-led team are happy about the Indian veteran’s decent touch and the 33-year-old will look to bet on it.
Speaking of the third T20I against Australia, Virat Kohli played a well-crafted 63 and helped team India win the match alongside Suryakumar Yadav.
3) Rise of Axar Patel:
Axar Patel bagged the man of the series award against Australia. The all-rounder filled the void of Ravindra Jadeja in the T20I series against Australia and would be looking to do same against South Africa. Speaking of the series against Australia, the all-rounder bagged as many as eight wickets.
Negatives:
1) Failure of Indian openers
Albeit Rohit Sharma played decently, the Indian skipper hasn't found his best touch yet. However, KL Rahul’s inability to hit from the start is one of the biggest concerns. The batter from Karnataka must shine in the South Africa series. If not, it might come to haunt India in the mega event in Australia.
2) Death Bowling
Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s death bowling has been haunting team India for a long time now. In the Asia Cup 2022, the bowler kept messing up in the penultimate over. However, his ability to swing the ball up front can never be questioned.
Harshal Patel, on the other hand, should make great returns ahead in the series. Although he bowled in the final over in the previous match against Australia, one has to agree that the bowler is leaking runs at the death.
3) Poor Fielding
Fielding has been India’s biggest concern of late. The team lack fitness and the fielders are unaware of what they are doing. Speaking of the series against Australia, many fielders dropped catches.
This might come to haunt India in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 if that department is not looked at in the series against South Africa.
