Mohammed Shami, the senior pacer was all set to a make a comeback in the shortest format of the game in the series against Australia. Earlier, the selectors named him as a stand-by player for the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
India evidently missed the services of the senior pacer in the Asia Cup 2022 and it turned out to be a grave mistake. However, the player will also miss the series against Australia on the back of an unwanted scenario.
Mohammed Shami tested positive for Covid-19 and will now miss out on the series against Australia. The 32-year-old was extremely impressive in the Indian T20 League for the Gujarat franchise. People speculated that the pacer might be in for the continental tournament but the selectors had other ideas.
Umesh Yadav is in for Mohammed Shami
Now it has been revealed that Umesh Yadav has replaced Mohammed Shami. The former had a decent run with the Kolkata franchise in 2022 and maintained an economy of around seven.
The 34-year-old further went on to represent Middlesex in County Championship in first-class and List-A as well. The aggressive pacer managed to end up as the leading wicket-taker of the team in the Royal One Day cup.
Mohammed Shami will have to wait a few more days before making it to the international arena in the shortest format of the game. Meanwhile, Umesh Yadav will look to make the best of the opportunity and hope for the best in future.
Speaking of the series, India will host Australia for three-match T20I series. Mohali will host the first T20I on September 20 while Nagpur will host the second on September 23. Hyderabad will host the final and third T20I of the series on September 25. It will be a crucial series for both teams as the heavyweights will testify yet again in the warm-up match of the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
