India defeated Bangladesh by 188 runs and won a Test outside India for the first time in 2022. India started on the wrong note as they were reduced to 48/3 in the first innings and looked in all sorts of trouble, but Cheteshwar Pujara scored an invaluable 90 off 203 balls in the first innings. He was complemented by Rishabh Pant, who scored a counter-attacking 46 off 45.

Shreyas Iyer scored a superb 86 off 192 with 10 fours. When Iyer got out at 293-7, it seemed India will be bowled out early, but, Ravichandran Ashwin made a wonderful contribution of 58 off 113 and Kuldeep Yadav hung around and scored a valuable 40 off 114. That got India to 404.

Kuldeep then struck with the ball and took 5-40 in his 16-over spell in the second innings. This ensured Bangladesh were bowled out for just 150. India had a healthy lead in the first innings and but they didn't enforce the follow-on.

India came out to bat again and Shubman Gill notched his maiden ton. He scored 110 off 152 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes. Pujara, on the other hand, scored a quickfire 102 off 130 balls with 13 fours. It was also his fastest Test Hundred.

India declared at 258-2 and set Bangladesh a 413-run target. Bangladesh fought hard in the second innings.

Kuldeep Yadav picked up eight wickets in the match

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hassan set the tone with a 100-run opening partnership in the second innings. Zakir also scored his maiden Test ton off 224 balls with 13 fours. There was a good contribution from Shakib Al Hasan down the order as he scored 84 off 108 with 6 fours and 6 sixes before Kuldeep picked his wicket, later on the final day.

Kuldeep finished with three wickets in the second innings to have a total of eight wickets in the match. Axar Patel picked up 4-77 in the second innings and there was a wicket each for Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and R Ashwin. This enabled India to take a 1-0 lead in the two match Test series against Bangladesh.

The second Test will be held at Dhaka and India would be aiming to win that as well in a bid to get some valuable World Test Championship points in the bag and be in the race for the final of the World Test Championship.
