The Asia Cup 2023 tournament moved into the Super 4 stage on Wednesday. The first game of the next phase was between Pakistan and Bangladesh. The game was played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Bangladesh won the toss as Shakib Al Hasan chose to bat first on a hot day in Lahore. The Pakistani pacers though were breathing fire as they bowled out Bangladesh for a mere 193 in the 39th over of the innings.

Pakistan has made it to the Super Four stage with a win over Nepal and a point in the washed-out game against India. Bangladesh on the other hand began the tournament with a loss to Sri Lanka. This was followed by an 89-run win against Afghanistan which sealed a place in the Super Four stage for Bangladesh.

Pakistani pacers run riot 

Bangladesh lost their first wicket of the game in the 1st ball of the 2nd over bowled by Naseem Shah. The centurion from the last game, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was out for a golden duck. Litton Das began well as he struck some beautifully timed shots for boundaries. Shaheen Afridi though had the last laugh when he had Das caught behind for 16.

Haris Rauf then joined the party when he got two quick wickets. The 29-year-old first removed Mohammad Naim for 20. The left-handed opener went for a pull and mistimed the shot as Rauf took an easy return catch. Rauf, then got the wicket of Towhid Hridoy for 2 when he went through his defenses.

Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim combined forces with the score reading 47/4. The pair batted well to add 100 runs for the 5th wicket stand. Shakib was out for 53 against the run of play. This opened the door once again for the home team to make a comeback to the game.

Haris Rauf came back into the attack to get rid of Rahim for 64 and Taskin Ahmed for a first-ball duck. Rahim’s 64 came off 87 balls with 5 fours as he was the top scorer for Bangladesh. The inning was soon over as Bangladesh were all out for 193. Naseem Shah picked three wickets including the final wicket of Shoriful Islam. The right arm pacer had earlier got injured on his shoulder to send the Pakistani fans into panic.
