Former India skipper Virat Kohli has made quite a lot of records with the bat in hand. He has played 267 ODIs, 104 Tests, and 115 T20Is. In ODIs, he has the second-highest number of centuries to his name (45) of all time. Apart from this, he has quite a lot of records to break and has broken a lot in the past 13 years.

Meanwhile, in the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, the 2008 U19 World Cup winner will have the opportunity to break some records. Over the years, the right-hander has played 26 games against them and has 1378 runs at an average of 59.91. Meanwhile, in this listicle, we will have a look at three records that the Delhi player can break during the series.

1. Need 62 runs to break Mahela Jayawardene's record

The former Sri Lanka skipper, Jayawardene has played 448 games and has 12650 runs to his name at an average of 33.37 including 19 hundred and 77 fifties. On the other hand, Kohli has played only 267 games and already has 12588 runs averaging 57.47 including 45 hundred and 64 fifties.

Meanwhile, in the upcoming series, the latter needs 62 runs to get past Mahela's record. With the kind of former's current form, it is certain that one good game in the series will get him past the Sri Lankan legend.

2. Two centuries to get past Virender Sehwag

Two-time World Cup winner for India, Virender Sehwag's favorite team was New Zealand. In the 2002 and 2009 series in the island nation, he was one of the highest run-getters for India. Also, he has six centuries to his name.

On the other hand, Virat also has a great record against the Kiwis. In the 26 games against them, the 34-year-old has 1378 runs at an average of 59.91 including five hundreds. If the latter manages to score two hundreds in the series, he can break Sehwag's record.

3. 372 runs to get past Sachin Tendulkar

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has 1750 runs against the Blackcaps and is the highest run-getter for India against the Kiwis. Only Virat Kohli has somehow come close with 1378 runs to his name. The latter needs 372 runs to get past his 2011 World Cup-winning teammate.

However, it looks a bit far-fetched as it is only a three-match series. Only if Kohli can have a dream run in the series, he might break the record in this series only.
