The ongoing Test between England and New Zealand has produced some great batting and bowling masterclass in the first two games. In the third Test, however, one incident is getting viral that involves none of these.

The incident that is being talked about by all is the bizarre dismissal of New Zealand batter Henry Nicholls. It happened in the 56th over when Jack Leach was bowling to Henry Nicholls. On his second ball, the Kiwi batter hit a straight shot which would have gone straight to four had it not hit the non-striker, Daryl Mitchell’s bat.
In the process of getting out of the way, Daryl involuntarily hit the oncoming ball with his bat. In a series of bizarre outcomes, the ball went straight to the mid-off fielder Alex Lees. The batter was called out and rightfully so, but the manner of his dismissal has caught many off guard.

The video is being shared in massive numbers across social media with everyone giving their own take on the dismissal.

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in a tweet wrote, “An unfortunate dismissal? Yes. But wholly within the Laws,” tweeted the MCC from its official Twitter handle. “Law 33.2.2.3 states it will be out if a fielder catches the ball after it has touched the wicket, an umpire, another fielder, a runner or the other batter.”

The great Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar was also at it with his funny take on the Nicholls dismissal. Quoting the original tweet by England Cricket, the Master Blaster wrote, “In gully cricket, we’d declare the non-striker out.”

Talking of the game, New Zealand are currently batting at 352/8 with Daryl Mitchell having come up with another century (109); his third of the series. Tom Blundell also came up with an impressive half-century of 55 off of 122 balls. Tim Southee (33 off 27) and Trent Boult are at the crease before lunch was called.
