Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs recently encountered in the Qualifier 2 match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in Guyana on Saturday, September 23. JT won the toss and chose to bowl first, and GAW put a competitive total on the board.
Amazon Warriors openers struggled to find runs but their middle-order batters contributed well to take the team to 182-6. Azam Khan and Shai Hope of Amazon Warriors scored 54 and 40 runs off 26 and 33 deliveries with a strike rate of 200 and 121.21, respectively. Azam's incredible knock, which included 3 boundaries and 4 sixes, was the highlight of GAW's batting innings.
Tallawahs miserably failed in the 183-run chase as they were bowled out for a paltry score of 101 in 15.2 overs. Middle-order batter Imad Wasim, who scored 43 runs off 33 balls, was the team's top scorer. Amazon Warriors sealed an easy victory of 81 runs and qualified for their sixth CPL final.
We deserve to be in the final: Imran Tahir
Speaking after the match, Amazon Warriors captain Imran Tahir said his team deserved to reach the final with the way they played throughout the tournament. GAW will face Trinbago Knight Riders in the summit clash on Monday, September 25. Notably, this will be their second final against TKR.
“Feel really proud. Everyone chipped in and it's been the story for the whole season. They worked really hard and really good to see Azam get some runs. Really happy to see both Azam and Hetmyer get some runs today. We have been in this situations many times before, including myself, you have to have some nerves. We deserve to be in the final for the way we played throughout the competition," said Tahir.
"We got stability with the bat, we did speak about it. We just need to focus to play the game with freedom and execute our plans (talking about the preparations for the final). We are hoping that he (Keemo Paul) will be fit for the final and he really wants to do something special for the team. Thanks to all the crowd and all the Guyanese people all around the world for your support”, he added.
