The 36th match of the 2023 Indian Premier League season saw two great teams face off as Royal Challengers Bangalore took on the Kolkata Knight Riders. The toss was won by Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the skipper Virat Kohli made the wise option to bowl first at a venue such as M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Beginning well, N Jagadeesan, with Jason Roy, waved off David Willey and Mohammed Siraj.
Before Vijaykumar Vyshak was dismissed Jason Roy and Jagadeesan had put up a strong opening collaboration of 83 runs. Nitish Rana as well as Venkatesh Iyer, who were in good form, came to the bowling crease. Although the bowlers restricted the run pace, the batsmen made sure they were constantly searching for boundaries to help their team reach a respectable total.
After a spectacular catch by Vyshak, Nitish Rana was out in the final overs by Wannindu Hasaranga. When Venkatesh Iyer attempted to smash a googly, he was caught by Maxwell and Hasaranga also dismissed him. After Siraj removed the dangerous Andre Russell, Rinku Singh as well as David Wiese made sure Kolkata Knight Riders reached 200/5. On this surface, it was a respectable total that offered the bowlers a chance.
Who did both the teams bring on as impact players in the second innings?
Faf du Plessis, the orange cap holder for the current season of the Indian Premier League, was the main player, along with Virat Kohli and a lot of focus was on them to take the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise to the total. Both of them started off on a great note as they smashed both Vaibhav Arora and Umesh Yadav for runs in the first two overs.
Du Plessis’ innings, however, came to an end shortly after the second over as he was dismissed by another impact player Suyash Sharma. The Bangalore skipper looked to get another six but was able to find the fielder on the boundary line resulting in the wicket.
