A non-striker runout brought another controversy at the ongoing Big Bash Season 12 after Adam Zampa ran out Melbourne Renegades player Tom Rogers on Tuesday night.
The incident took place in the last over of the first innings when Mackenzie Harvey and Tom Rogers were batting together. With Rogers at the non-striker's end, Zampa goes on to bowl the 5th ball of the last over.
Soon however he stops on his strike and runs Rogers out since he was far out of his crease before the ball was even bowled. The crowd goes wild seeing an Australian do what they usually criticise Indian players for.
The umpires soon gather together to discuss if the run-out was legal and sends it to the third umpire. The third umpire checks the replay and finds that Zampa had actually completed his bowling action as his hand has passed over the head.

The rule says that the non-striker should not leave the crease before the ball has been released by the bowler or gotten to the release point. As soon as Zampa runs the player out, the 40,000-odd crowd starts booing him as a bowler running a batter who is taking unfair advantage is deemed ‘un sportsmanship” in Australia and England.
Former Australia player David Hussey who was commentating on the match spoke against Zampa’s move and said that the team would’ve withdrawn the appeal if Rogers had been given out.
“It’s not the right way to play cricket- yet. It was more of a warning for the batter not to leave too early,” Hussey said.
I was well within my rights- Zampa
Zampa later told reporters that he had no regrets for his actions. “I'm a very competitive guy. I saw red a little bit when he used that to his advantage,” he said.
“If I get in that situation again, I’m not saying I won’t do it… I was well within my rights. It’s in the rule book. I just got my technique wrong.”
